Department of Computer Science and Cybersecurity was established on the basis of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics in 2020. Department of Applied Mathematics ans Informatics was established in 1993 as general university department for teaching disciplines in programming, basics of computer science and applied mathematics. The first set of students majoring in "Informatics" was made in 1996. It was the only Department in Volyn region that provided training in informatics. The purpose of its activities was to coordinate the main areas of pedagogical, methodological and scientific work at the university and in the region. To this end, the Department actively cooperated with other departments of the university, Lutsk city and regional departments of education and science, regional state administration, district departments of education, Ukrainian and foreign universities. The informatics specialists training was based on the levels: “Bachelor of Applied Mathematics”, “Informatics Specialist”, and “Master of Informatics”, full-time and part-time.

The first head of the Department (from 1993 to April 1998) was the Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate professor P. Y. Myronyuk. From April 1998 to September 1999 the head of the department - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Full professor M. I. Kratko. From September 1999 to November 2000 the head of the Department was Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate professor T. O. Cheprasova. From November 2000 to September 2004, the department was headed by Doctor of Engineering Science, Full professor, Academician of UkrAINE (Ukrainian Academy of Informatics) V. I. Hrabarchuk. From September 2004 to October 2009 the Department was headed by Ph.D in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, Corresponding Member. of UkrAIN, V. O. Mykhailyuk, who in November 2009 was enrolled in doctoral studies at V. M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 2007-2008 academic year the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Full professor M. V. Bratiychuk, specialist in applied probability theory and mathematical statistics. In the 2009-2010 academic year, the head of the dDpartment was Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Full professor I. T. Denisyuk. Since September 2010 the head of the Department was Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate professor T. O. Cheprasova. 2012 – 31.03.2015 the head of the Department was Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Full professor V. L. Kulyk. 1.04.2015 – 31.08.2015 the head of the Department was Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate professor T. O. Cheprasova. 1.09.2015 – 8.01.2019 the Department was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Full professor, V. O. Mykhailyuk (died 9.01.2019). Science January 2019 to September 2020 the head of the department was Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate professor T. O. Cheprasova. Science September to November 2020 the Department was headed by Ph.D in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Senior lecturer Y. V. Sachuk. Currently, the Department of Computer Science and Cybersecurity is headed by Ph.D in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate professor T. O. Hryshanovych.
