The Department of General Mathematics and Computer Science Teaching Methods was established on the basis of the Department of Higher Mathematics and Informatics in 2020. The Department of Higher Mathematics and Informatics was established in January 2000. Since 2001, the department has a laboratory for applied statistics, which provides advices to scientists, teachers, graduate students, university students and other organizations in the region.

Since 2011 the department is the organizer of the annual International scientific-practical conference "Mathematics. Information Technology. Education".

Since September 2020, the department is a graduate of the specialty 014 Secondary Education (Computer Science).
