History
The Faculty of Biology was established in 1993 on the basis of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography of Lutsk Pedagogical Institute named after Lesya Ukrainka, which had been functioning since 1974. Having obtained a license for the Educational Program 222 in Medicine in 2019 the name of the Faculty of Biology changed to the Faculty of Medicine and Biology.

Qualification of Doctor of Philosophy
Full-time and extramural education. The normative term of preparation of the Doctor of philosophy in postgraduate studies is four years. Postgraduate preparation involves the fulfillment of the corresponding educational-scientific or scientific program of the University of a Particular Specialty by person and the conduct of his or her own scientific research. An integral part of the postgraduate educational-scientific program is writing and publication of scientific articles.
Postgraduates carry out scientific researches according to an individual plan of scientific work, which defines the content, timing and scope of scientific work, as well as the planned term of defense of the dissertation thesis within the term of postgraduate studies. An individual scientific work plan is to be completed by an applicant for the degree and is used to evaluate the success of the planned scientific work.
Postgraduate preparation finishes with the presentation of the postgraduates’ academic achievements to a specialized academic council.
