Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University
The history of the Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University has started since 1996. It was then at the initiative of the head of the Department of Archeology and Source Studies M. M. Kuchynka and under the leadership of A. A. Dmytrenko was drawn up the first exposition of the department of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia. In 2002–2008, the department was a member of the Museum of Archeology of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. With the creation of the Department of document Science and Museum Affairs on the initiative of its head S. V. Gavryliuk created the Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia at the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University On this occasion, the corresponding decision of the Rector of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University was made on November 18, 2008, according to order No. 438-C, where it was noted: “To create on the basis of ethnographic collection taken during the historical-regional and ethnographic practices of students of the historical faculty, the Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia”. On December 3, 2010, the Department of Education and Science of the Volyn Regional State Administration registered the Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia at the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University named after Lesya Ukrainka.
At the end of December 2008 the first ethnographic exhibition entitled “On the thread of the genealogy” was organized. She was extremely successful and with the help of A. A. Dmytrenko became annual. .
In April 2011, partial re-exhibition of the Museum of Ethnography of Volyn and Polesia was carried out, the result of which was the presentation of five thematic blocks: wood, ceramics, weaving, clothes, decorative fabrics.
In the same month the exhibition was held as a result of the production museum practice of students of 5th year students of the specialty “Museum affairs and protection of monuments of history and culture”, which was timed to Easter holidays. It has covered such thematic blocks: “Clothes of Volyn and Western Polesia”, “Potter's cells of Volyn”, “Weaving of Volyn and Western Polesia” and photo exhibition “Ethnographic Summer 2010”.
On May 12–19, 2011, the Museum of Ethnography of Volyn and Polesia organized the fourth ethnographic exhibition “On the thread of the lineage”, dedicated to the International Museum Day and the 15-year anniversary of the creation of the Museum of Ethnography of Volyn and Polesia. Its opening took place within the framework of the Lesya Ukrainka National University Science Festival.
From 1 to 10 July 2011 second-year students of the specialty “Museum affairs and protection of monuments of history and culture” under the direction of the candidate of historical sciences A. A. Dmytrenko, passed the field ethnographic practice in the village Mezhysyt Ratnivskiy district of Volyn region. During the expedition the collection of exhibits was conducted for replenishment of funds of the Museum of Ethnography of Volyn and Polesia. In particular, the museum received about fifty valuable exhibits, among which are the sokha, zhlukto (tub for soaking linen), sernega (winter outerwear) and more. All these materials are stored in the Museum of Ethnography of Volyn and Polesia and are an original source from which you can get information about the traditional culture of Ukrainians.
On May 14–18, 2012, 3rd year students majoring in “Museum Affairs and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments” helped create the exhibition “From Grandma's Chest” (exhibition of new arrivals). Oksana Grabynska, a fifth-year student majoring in Museum Affairs and the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, prepared the exhibition “The Shuttle Fast, and the Shuttle Song and Thread” as a practical embodiment of her master's thesis. This exhibition is dedicated to the famous weaver Zinoviia Dane.
In October 2012, before the Second Scientific and Practical Conference “State and Prospects of Innovation and Investment Development of Lutsk” was organized an exhibition “From Grandma's Chest” (clothing and decorative fabrics), students majoring in “Museum Affairs and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments” of IV and V years took an active part in the preparation of which. .
Small exhibitions called “Ethnographic Summer” have also become traditional. The first such exhibitions (2008–2010) contained purely photographic materials and reflected the participation of museum students in field ethnographic expeditions. In 2011, the idea arose to present new things that came to the museum during the summer internships. The opening of the exhibition “Ethnographic Summer–2011” took place on November 17, 2011 during the week of the Faculty of History. Students took part in the design of the exhibition and its opening.
On May 17, 2011, the Museum hosted the Open Day for the first time.
On October 19, 2011, the Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia initiated the “Holiday of Our Family”, in the organization and holding of which the fifth-year students of the specialty “Museum affairs and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments” took an active part. The purpose of this event was to attract freshmen majoring in “Museum Affairs and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments” and “Documentation and Information Activities” to the student community, to involve them in active student life, and to acquaint them with teachers of history. Among the two first-year groups, a number of competitions were held for knowledge of Ukrainian proverbs, sayings, folk songs and dances, etc. After passing the “difficult” tests, first-year students were admitted to take the student oath, and also were honored as members of a large and friendly family of the Department of Documentation and Museum Affairs.
For the second time, the “Holiday of our family” was held by students of the specialty “Museum affairs and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments” on October 31, 2012. The holiday was dominated by a friendly, family atmosphere. The organizers prepared and demonstrated a mini-play about how their lives would have turned out if they had not entered the East faculty. Traditionally, among the three first-year groups, the graduates held a number of competitions for knowledge of Ukrainian songs, as well as for the correct selection of girls' costumes from the funds of the Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia.
On April 12, 2012, the fourth-year students of the Ministry of Education and Science organized a solemn educational event “Spring Meeting”. He was visited by students of the first grade of secondary school № 5 in Lutsk. This was the first experience of practical organization of museum activities for students and the first visits to the museum by students.
During the holiday, future museum workers used interactive methods of working with visitors, addressed students as participants in the action. After getting acquainted with the museum's exposition, first-graders were given the opportunity to iron things with the help of the rubel and an iron of the early twentieth century – as their grandmothers once ironed. The children also saw in which dishes they used to cook, tried to “eat” with wooden spoons.
On March 22, 2013, within the framework of the training course “Museum Pedagogy”, fourth-year students on the basis of Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia held a solemn event for children of different ages (4–9 years) “Fairy tales in the museum…”. The holiday began with a game-play “Ivasyk Telesyk”, the main characters of which together with students were children. Under the story of the hosts, they showed the audience their acting skills. The end of the play was a fabulous tour of the thematic sections of the museum.
On March 29, 2013, fourth-year students on the basis of Museum of ethnography of Volyn and Polesia held a solemn event for second-graders, as well as a master class on making “Motanka”.
