The Volyn NGO "Piatirnia" cultural sector, social and artistic project "Art Postril", and volunteers of the cultural front started painting the walls at public shelters. The idea arose during one of the long air raid alarms in one of the shelters of Lutsk. Oksana Yarosh, the head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, recalls that one of the residents noticed how gloomy our shelter was.
Therefore, artist Tetiana Mialkovska appealed to the public on social networks, and more than 60 artists of our region and the temporarily displaced in Lutsk responded. This is how a number of wonderful creative works appeared on the shelter walls. Ms. Tetiana coordinates process of painting the bomb shelters and sees how the space becomes transformed, how people like it, especially children.
The Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security of Lesya Ukrainka University supported the idea of painting the shelter in the faculty building. Tetiana Mialkovska says: “This is our third shelter already. It’s cold here and rather difficult to paint. But, what is easy in the state of war?! This is our cultural battlefield”.
