On November 15, 2023, in the Sports Complex of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, a mixed futsal competition was held among the «Mix» faculties, timed to the Student's Day. According to the rules of the tournament, two girls and three boys played simultaneously in one team on the court.
The sports event, which took place at the educational institution for the first time, was organised by Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Health. Six teams participated being divided into two groups.
According to the results of group matches, Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Health, Professional College of Business Technologies and Law, Faculty of Medicine and Law entered the semifinals. The teams of Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security and Faculty of Philology and Journalism could not make it to the playoffs. In the first semi-final, the Medics lost 1-0 to the College, conceding only in the last minute. In the second semi-final, physical education players defeated lawyers with a score of 9:2. The organisers awarded third place to the team of Faculty of Medicine. And in the fight for the cup, Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Health overcame the College, becoming the first winner of the trophy, which in its turn will be given to the next winner every year. The final match ended with a score of 2:1.
«Students are the basis of the activity of any institution of higher education. I always say: without students there is no university, and without intelligent and talented students – the future of our country. I sincerely thank you for your talent and physical training,» Rector Anatolii Tsos addressed the finalists.
Vasyl Pantik, Dean of Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Health, for his part, shared the achievements of the University's athletes. He believes that Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University is one of the leaders of providing educational services.
The co-organiser of the competition, head coach of the Legion-University women's football club, Dmytro Holoskokov, noted that the idea of holding a mixed competition was taken from the school league. «Mixed men's and women's teams sparked lively interest in both spectators and players themselves. Futsal is a democratic and exciting sport, and therefore the idea of chasing the ball on the eve of your holiday found a response among the majority of students of our University. We hope that the number of teams will increase next season,» said the coach.
At the end of the sports event, the prize-winning teams received awards, and the champions received a transitional cup.
