On the institution’s patroness birthday, the representatives of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University joined city-wide events to commemorate the writer.
Rector Anatolii Tsos together with Vice-Rector for Academic Work and Recruitment Yurii Hromyk, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Communication Natalia Blahovirna, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Cooperation Lyudmyla Yelisieieva, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Economic Development and Project Activities Ihor Chulipa, Rector’s Assistant Tetiana Rospopa, lecturers, students and employees of the university laid flowers at Lesya Ukrainka’s monument. The ceremony was also attended by the representatives of local authorities, clergy of the Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who are interested in the work of the great compatriot, an all-Ukrainian and world scale artist, and also by Lutsk community.
During the event, Head of the Department of Theory of Literature and Foreign Literature, Professor Serhii Romanov took the floor with a speech about Lesya Ukrainka’s life principles. “Today is the day when the greatest of us came to Ukraine. I am grateful to everyone who, regardless of the weather and turbulent times, arrived to honour Lesya Ukrainka. Her life, scholarly works, educational work as opposition to untruth and restoration of our noble, Cossack, freedom-loving code, an eternal struggle. Each of us must now make this choice,” said the scholar.
Afterwards, the representatives of the clergy held a memorial service for the repose of Lesya Ukrainka’s soul.
