On October 24, 2024, the large-scale medical event of the 20th Congress of the World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Societies started on the basis of Medical Faculty. The event was initiated by the Medical Faculty of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Societies, All-Ukrainian Medical Society, Ukrainian Medical Society (Lviv), Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University.
Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Anatolii Tsos being on a foreign business trip in the city of Osijek (Croatia), greeted the audience in video format. According to him, the students are invited to three more countries: Sweden, Italy and Croatia under academic mobility programmes.
Anatolii Vasyliovych noted that it was possible to adopt foreign experience in the field of medicine. "There is a medical faculty and a dental faculty in Osijek. We are already working to have powerful scientific and educational cooperation," Rector noted. He wished all participants of the congress fruitful work and constructive discussions.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the University, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Iryna Konstankevich emphasized the relevance of the congress. "I would like to emphasize the fact that medicine and medical education currently face great challenges related to the war and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. This is a challenge to the maturity of our medical community," said Iryna Myroslavivna. According to her, the number of doctors in Ukraine is decreasing, and the need for their services is increasing. "There are a lot of questions and we must be aware that our doctors will have to solve them," Head of the Supervisory Board summed up.
"What the management of the University is doing to develop the medical faculty together with partners and the authorities will certainly be fruitful and is already so. It is very nice that such a large-scale event is taking place on the basis of Medical Faculty. It is necessary to restore the state, after all, restore people, and doctors, whose number is decreasing every year, will play not the last, but the first role, because a surgeon, psychologist or other doctor will first of all meet a soldier from the frontline or a family from home, in which problems are inevitable," said Chairman of Volyn Regional Council, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the University Hryhorii Nedopad.
Other honorable guests, representatives of medical field and authorities welcomed everyone. Andrii Bazylevych thanked the management of the University for organisation of the congress.
The representatives of the medical faculty under the leadership of Dean Andrii Poruchynskyi definitely attended the event. The sessions continued at Medicical Faculty in form of sectional meetings. Leading representatives of medical field focused their discussions on the following issues:
1. Ukrainian medical societies in the world: realities and development prospects.
2. Professional autonomy, medical self-government. Medical ethics and professional responsibility of doctors. Licensing, certification, accreditation. Continuous professional development and medical education.
3. Changes in healthcare in Ukraine: public health and the ability to overcome epidemiological threats; changes in the provision of medical care during the war period; reforming the primary and secondary links of providing medical assistance, management in health care, etc.
4. Rehabilitation and medical and social problems, multidisciplinary approach: post-traumatic conditions (combat, domestic trauma), adaptation of participants in military operations.
5. Scientific achievements and modern innovative technologies in modern medicine: diagnosis, treatment, prevention; organisation of health care and medical assistance; scientific research and standards.
