On December 26, the Faculty of Foreign Philology celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of its founding as Lesya Ukrainka University structural division.
The event was attended by the University administration led by the Rector Anatolii Tsos, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Science of Volyn Oblast Oleksandr Tkachuk, Director of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lutsk City Council Volodymyr Zahozhyi, the teaching staff and students of the Faculty of Foreign Philology led by Dean Larisa Makaruk.
According to Larysa Makaruk, the faculty is the largest structural division having 121 employees. These include, in particular, eight doctors and 80 candidates of sciences. It is notable that 75 lecturers are the faculty graduates. Meanwhile, the faculty currently has almost 1,000 students studying six foreign languages: English, German, French, Swedish, Spanish and Chinese.
“We are entitled to be proud of the history and names that carry and multiply the glory of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. We have a lot of grateful graduates and dynasties who studied, are studying and will study at our faculty,” Larysa Makaruk summed up.
Later, Rector of the University, Anatolii Tsos, was invited to speak: “The Faculty of Foreign Philology is a powerful structural unit with qualified teaching staff, good material and technical base and educated graduates. These are true facts, not words. Very few faculties have 80 % of its staff who are doctors and candidates of sciences. We will continue working together so that our students get a quality education.”
Oleksandr Tkachuk, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Science of Volyn Oblast, congratulated the faculty, noting that it has trained thousands of qualified specialists who are in demand on the labour market. Mr. Oleksandr added that in civilised countries, the knowledge of foreign languages is a sign of education. Director of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lutsk City Council, Volodymyr Zahozhiy, joined in the congratulatory words to highly appreciate the work of the faculty and the qualifications of its graduates. During the venue, the best representatives of the faculty were awarded certificates of appreciation. The attendees watched compositions performed by creative groups.
