Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have built constructive cooperation in many areas. On June 17, 2024, Lesya's people joined the event “God helps the brave” dedicated to the arrival of the 100th Brigade to Volyn after 15 months in the active combat zone.
The history of the Steel Hundred began in 2018 as a territorial defense brigade. At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, it was responsible for the defense of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border within the Volyn region.
Afterwards, the brigade was continuously deployed in eastern Ukraine for 15 months, fighting in the hottest spots of the front. During this time, our soldiers destroyed more than 1700 occupants, 48 enemy tanks, 118 armored combat vehicles, and 30 artillery systems. The brigade is currently undergoing recuperation.
militaryThe event began with a tribute to the fallen Heroes and a minute of silence. Rector Anatolii Tsios thanked the military for their feat and the established cooperation with the University. He emphasized that it is thanks to our Defenders that higher education institutions can work and teach students.
The rector noted that representatives of our university actively volunteer, send aid to the Armed Forces, and hold cultural events. In particular, Lesyn's people recently handed over eight DJI MAVIC 3 PRO quadcopters and goodies to the Steel Sotka, as well as presented a patriotic concert program. The rector handed over another such drone to the military during the event.
In addition, the military were greeted by government officials, including the chairman of the University's Supervisory Board, MP Iryna Konstankevych and the deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board, chairman of the regional council Hryhorii Nedopad.
During the event, songs performed by the People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor of the Department of Musical Art Vasyl Chepeliuk were performed for the servicemen of the 100th Brigade.
