On May 16, 2022, during all-University Science Days, the Faculty of Philology and Journalism hosted a scientific and practical student seminar “Information Front in the russian-Ukrainian War.” The event was organised and moderated by Natalia Shulska, Associate Professor of the Department of Social Communications. The topical issue inspired the curiosity of journalism students who presented their research on the information space under martial law. Freshmen Anastasia Basalka, Valentyn Borzenko, Khrystyna Skopyk, Zoryana Vashchuk, Oleksandra Yatsenko, Oleksandra Panasiuk, Roman Marchuk, and Pavlo Kots delivered their reports. In their scientific investigations, the students have refuted the fakes with which the enemy is trying to disorient us; pointed at the typical features of manipulative content, suggested effective methods of combating provocative information, taught how to form critical thinking and develop media literacy.
“After all, knowing fakes in person equals to being armed in the information war,” the young speakers convinced. The seminar also focused on how not to fall victim to misinformation, to be able to distinguish true messages from false ones, which reliable sources to use, and so on. “Let's be media literate! Everything will be Ukraine”, the students summed up at the end of the event.
