A futsal tournament was held at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Rector’s Open Cup.
The competition lasted two days: from February 9 to 10. In addition to the hosts, the teams of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University, Lviv State University of Physical Culture named after Ivan Bobersky, Rivne State Humanitarian University, Ostroh Academy National University and Lutsk National Technical University competed for Lesya Ukrainka University Rector’s Cup.
The participants were divided into two groups of three teams each. According to the results of the first day of the tournament, the team of Lesya Ukrainka University became the leaders of Group A, the representatives of LDUFK named after Ivan Bobersky took second place, and the LNTU took third place. In group B, the team from Ternopil was the best, RDSHU and Ostroh Academy took the second and third places, respectively.
The winners of the tournament as a result of intense struggle became the representatives of LDUFK named after Ivan Bobersky. Throughout the match, the equals were leading with a score of 1:0, but the team from Lviv managed to score in the last minutes and equalise the score. Therefore, the fate of the final match was decided by a series of penalties – 4:3.
The team of Lesya’s University took fourth place, losing to Ternopil in the match for third place, and the team of LNTU in the match for fifth place dealt with Ostroh residents.
During the awarding ceremony, Anatolii Tsos congratulated all the participants and awarded the winners of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Rector’s Open Cup. Individual players also received awards. The best goalkeeper of the tournament was Dmytro Zahurskyi, the best player was Maksym Bodnar, and the best scorer was Volodymyr Mostovyi. Anatolii Tsos also remarked that taking into account the positive results of the tournament, the idea of making the competition a tradition was born: “We plan to organise a tournament every year in the second half of February, the participants of which will be competing in eight teams. I congratulate everyone once again and see you again.”
