On December, 3rd, 2014 the EENU Library hosted a presentation of the audioalbum "I love Ukraine, my poor Ukraine, I really love her so...", dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko.
The recording was made by the students of Sutsvittia (Inflorescence) poetic studio and its director Svitlana Kresak, Senior Library Specialist, on the Volyn broadcasting company, with the financial support of the Ihor Palytsia’s New Lutsk Charitable Foundation.
The album includes two Kobzar’s poems: Kateryna recited by Svitlana Kresak, and To the Dead, the Living... recited by Halyna Kot, fourth-year student of the Geography Faculty, Ivan Samoliuk, fifth-year student of the Law Faculty, and Kateryna Pavlova, University graduate. As Ms. Kresak explained, “these poems were selected because in his Kateryna, Shevchenko described the fate of Ukraine, of Ukrainian women, and of our nation. However, To the Dead, the Living... just abounds on expressions that have become popular aphorisms, including “If you would train yourselves alone, you’d have some wisdom of your own”, "Gain knowledge, brothers! Think and read, and to your neighbours' gifts pay heed, — yet do not thus neglect your own”, “Then in your own house you will see true justice, strength, and liberty!”, “Thus, in her struggle, our Ukraine reached the last climax of pure pain”, “Brother, embrace! Your hopes possess, I beg you in all eagerness!” And all this is in one poem! In Shevchenko’s words, the only key to our success and good future of the state is unity and brotherhood.”
The name of the CDis also symbolic. “Shevchenko put the fate of Ukraine and his own fate and soul on the scales. After all, the words “I love Ukraine, my poor Ukraine, I really love her so” have a continuation shocking in its effect: “That I would curse the holy God and would destroy my soul.” Could anyone else say something like that, so passionately and self-sacrificingly? It is this love to Ukraine we need to learn”, emphasized Ms. Kresak.
The album “I love Ukraine, my poor Ukraine, I really love her so...” is a precious gift to language and literature teachers, students of faculties of Philology, pupils, inhabitants of Lutsk who like TarasShevchenko’s creative legacy. These recordsofpoems urge Ukrainians to reconsider the words of our Prophet.
Finally, Ms. Kresak gave the collection of records to the EENU Library and the Museum of History as a gift. Volodymyr Zakhozhyi, Head of Department of Youth Policy and Social Work who was present at the event, handed the Volyn Regional Administration Head’s Letter of Gratitude to Svitlana Kresak, and the EENU Rector’s Letters of Gratitudes to the students who participated in the project.
