On July 14, the «Medical Education in Volyn: Achievements and Development Prospects» round table was held at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. Heads of medical colleges and hospitals of the region, leading doctors, doctors of medical sciences, lecturers gathered for the event.
At the beginning of the round table, Rector Anatolii Tsos was invited to speak and express gratitude to all those present for their participation in the event. It was mentioned by Rector that Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University took the 17th position in the consolidated rating of higher education institutions of Ukraine. In addition, the advantages of training doctors at a classical university were indicated as well as the areas that still need to be developed.
Anatolii Tsos also remarked that the university is working on the development of Medical Faculty. For this, repair works are being carried out, the material and technical base is being improved. «I would be grateful if we could meet together from time to time and discuss what we can do to improve medical education,» Rector said.
Head of Health Care Department of the Volyn Regional Military Administration, Yurii Lehkodukh, noted: «The people who have gathered here are working and seeing the urgent problems that need to be solved in order to improve the quality of medical education in Volyn. For our part, we are ready to reach out and support important initiatives.»
In his speech, Yurii Lehkodukh also spoke about the distribution of interns between regions, emphasized the importance of maintaining qualified doctors in remote settlements of the region and rejuvenating personnel. According to him, the representatives of local self-government authorities should be involved in such conversations in the future.
During his speech, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Andrii Poruchynskyi spoke about the functioning and development prospects of the structural unit he is in charge of. According to him, educational centres will be created at the faculty with the capacity to provide clinical training to students on the basis of the university. In addition, a lot of modern equipment was purchased and all the necessary methodological literature published no more than five years ago.
Andrii Poruchynskyi also said that lecturers are constantly involved in professional internships improving their qualifications. A positive trend caan be observed on Faculty of Medicine. «We are optimistic about our future,» Dean concluded.
Head of Department of Clinical Medicine, Medical Director of Surgery of the «Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital» communal enterprise Mykola Halei spoke about potential students of Medical Faculty and the peculiarities of providing the departments with qualified personnel. In general, during the event, the issue of effective communication between the higher education institution and health care institutions for quality training of medical personnel in Volyn, training of interns, continuous professional development of doctors were discussed.
