On May 12, 2025, as part of this year's Science Festival, the University held Open Laboratory Days, an event that have already become a good tradition but received an unexpected and inspiring update this time.
Thus, the laboratories were represented not by their regular users, but by the students from other specialties who usually do not work in these spaces, thereby demonstrating the principle of interdisciplinarity, openness and academic partnership. The central idea of the event was unity in diversity, a new look at science and learning through the prism of empathy, creativity, and cooperation.
The opening was attended by the acting rector of the University Anatolii Tsos, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Cooperation Liudmyla Yelisieieva, and students from various faculties.

“Quality education should combine both learning and scientific work. Education through science is one of the best means and ways to form the competencies needed in professional activity. Scientific activity at our University is extremely important because it actually shapes its image. The laboratories are designed to conduct various studies that will be the basis for the publication of articles, the implementation of projects, and much more,” said Anatolii Tsos.

Liudmyla Yelisieieva explained the main principles realised in the idea of holding this year’s Open Laboratory Days, in particular: education through science is not only a trend, but also a strategic direction for the development of the University, and laboratories are not only places for experiments, but also spaces where ideas are born, critical thinking is formed, and the foundation for future research and publications is laid.
“What did we put into the idea of holding Open Laboratory Days? First: our unity is in diversity. Second: innovations are always created at the intersection, so your interdisciplinary communication is very important. The third point is that the strength of your team will lie in empathy and mutual understanding. It is also about leadership. Understanding another specialty and its strengths, becoming an ambassador for another specialty is not easy. It is a challenge for yourself and the whole team. Open Laboratory Days are about a living academic community, about partnership, openness, and faith in each other,” said Liudmyla Yelisieieva.

The originality of the format was reinforced by a draw: the students drew the names of the laboratories that they would have to represent, which created unexpected but productive combinations. Thus, future journalists immersed themselves in the work of a medical laboratory, lawyers in psychological research, and all students in general in an experience far from their daily academic routine.

On May 13, a solemn presentation of projects prepared by visiting representatives of each of the laboratories took place. The students themselves evaluated the works.
According to the results of the vote, the team from Faculty of Geography won first place; second place went to the team from Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security; third place went to Faculty of Economics and Management.

Soon, the most outstanding works of the competition participants will be published at our official pages in social networks. We invite you to stay updated and get inspired by the creativity of young scientists!
