On September 8, in front of the main building of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, a charity event «The Sports Chronicles of War» was held. The event was attended by Lesya's people guided by Rector Anatolii Tsos, authority representatives, athletes and coaches. During the event, the organisers fundraised money for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Anatolii Tsos reminded that when Olympic Games were held in Ancient Greece, all wars stopped. According to him, the aggressor country's participation in the Olympics cannot be allowed. «I am sincerely grateful to our sports community for their active stance and concern,» he summed up and mentioned the perished Heroes including many athletes and coaches.
«Today, we honour everyone involved in the field of physical culture and sports, because this is their professional holiday. It is with deep sorrow that we remember those who died on the battlefield, those who sacrificed their lives so that we have the right to live in our country,» said Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Iryna Chebeliuk.
Oleksandr Khvishchuk, Head of Department of Culture, Youth and Sports of Volyn Region, also mentioned the feat of the perished Heroes: «We must remember who we owe to and at what cost we have the opportunity to develop, improve, do what we love and just live. This is our Armed Forces. Today we pay tribute to all deceased warriors who sacrificed the most sacred thing they had.»
Thematic stands, fragments of enemy shells and destroyed sports equipment were presented at the exhibition. The exhibition will «travel» through the sports facilities of the city of Lutsk, to be displayed for all interested citizens.
During the event, patriotic artistic performances were presented.
