University and City Cooperation: Enlightenment Practices to Strengthen Mental Health of Youth under Martial Law

Taking into account the acute problem in qualified psychological assistance to various segments of the population, Larysa Zasekina, the Warrant of the “Clinical Psychology” programme, initiated a meeting with stakeholders to discuss the main emphasis of educational practice, which begins on September 15. The meeting was attended by the director of the Department of Youth and Sports Volodymyr Zahozhyi, the Head of the Youth Policy Department of the department Zaryna Datsyk, Military Chaplain Oleksandr Vronskyi and the Head of the Department of General and Clinical Psychology of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Olena Zhuravliova.

Larysa Zasekina asked the representatives of the department about the plan of events for young people; initiated a discussion of the main problems related to psychological well-being and quality of life in wartime; emphasized the importance of preventive and educational work to reduce the emotional distress of the civilian population during the war. Volodymyr Zahozhyi expressed his opinion about the need to improve the psychological well-being of young people and offered the space of the Veterans' Hub at Lesya Ukrainka University for educational events. Zaryna Datsyk emphasized that not only psychological, but also psychosocial and social support is needed by young people nowadays. Therefore, it is important to hold joint events where permanent residents of Lutsk and internally displaced persons can integrate into a single community of the place. Oleksandr Vronskyi emphasized that spiritual and psychological support, combined together in educational work with young people, is very effective.

The main outcome of the meeting was the agreement on the active involvement of masters of the EP “Clinical Psychology” during their educational practice in the implementation of the city council’s action plan in the context of improving the quality of life of the city’s youth during September-December 2022. The first educational event will be aimed at informing young people about resilience to stress and the possibility of its development in crisis periods of life.
