February 24, 2025, the anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University commemorated the students and graduates of Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security who had lost their lives defending Ukraine. As part of the event, four new memorial stands were opened in honour of the Heroes whose lives were tragically taken with the hands of russian occupiers.
The event was attended by acting rector Anatolii Tsos, Dean of Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security Yaroslav Yarosh, Deputy Dean Ivan Rudianyn, and the relatives of the fallen soldiers.
«The University must fulfill its main function of providing education. Education ensuring the functioning of our state, economy, and region. As a legal institution, the University, must also have its own face, position regarding this war and in this war. Each of us must first of all perform our professional duties efficiently, because the state's functioning depends on it. We will forever remember those who died for our safety,» – Anatolii Tsos.
Everyone honoured the memory of the fallen warriors with a minute of silence.
«Today, unfortunately, we are opening four more memorial plaques to our graduates. For us, they are the guardian angels of the faculty setting an example,» – Dean of Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security Yaroslav Yarosh.
All relatives, friends, brothers, teachers and students could share their memories of the fallen Heroes. They recalled the brightest moments from the lives of the fallen defenders, their courage, high morale, and unbreakable faith in Ukraine.
The representatives of the 13th «Khartiia» operational brigade presented the military banner to the dean of the faculty in honour of the fallen comrade and our graduate Oleksandr Yushchenko. This banner became a symbol of connection between the university community and those fighting at the frontline today, continuing the fight for the independence of Ukraine.
The names of the fallen Heroes are forever engraved in the memorial stands of the University as a symbol of deep sorrow, infinite gratitude and the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people. Eternal memory and glory to those who gave their lives for our freedom!
