Volunteers from France Hold an Educational and Methodological Seminar on the Psychosocial Rehabilitation of Children in Crisis Situations

Faculty of Foreign Philology held an educational and methodological seminar «Game and Rules, or Rules of the Game: Psychosocial Rehabilitation of Children in Crisis Situations» with the participation of foreign volunteers Philip Walls and Leslie Fox.

The students of Faculty of Foreign Philology, Faculty of Pedagogical Education and Social Work and other structural divisions of the University took part in the event. The event was also attended by Nataliia Blahovirna, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Communication, Larysa Makaruk, Dean of Faculty of Foreign Philology, Lina Halan, Head of Department of Social Services for Family, Children and Youth of Lutsk City Council, students and teachers.

At the beginning of the event, Associate Professor of English Philology Department Olena Halapchuk-Tarnavska noted that many students and lecturers decided to take advantage of the opportunity to gain a unique experience of volunteering, methods of working with children.

Vice-Rector Nataliia Blahovirna, on behalf of the institution's administration, thanked the foreign guests for their participation in the event, and visitors for their interest in the issue of psycho-social rehabilitation of children, which is important in today's realities. «The full-scale invasion of russia became a big challenge for education. Many undergraduates were forced to change their place of residence. We have to overcome the realities caused by war every day. And we understand how much the psycho-emotional state of students has deteriorated. Accordingly, we have many initiatives to support students, lecturers and the public. Therefore, I sincerely thank you for the educational initiative. Let there be less anxiety during your work at the University and your work bring positive results,» said Nataliia Blahovirna.

The founders and volunteers of the humanitarian company «Enfants Réfugiés du Monde», Philippe Valls and Leslie Fox, have been traveling around the world for 40 years to morally helping refugee children who were forced to leave their homes due to war, using different games (board or active games).

The speakers talked about game theory, which became the basis of shelter training for staff working with refugee children; described four types of games and the features of their use in the psycho-social rehabilitation of children who got into a crisis situation during the war. In addition, the participants of the event were shown games and methods of their practical application.

It is worth noting that translation for foreign guests and visitors was provided by students and lecturers of Faculty of Foreign Philology, using equipment from the simultaneous translation laboratory.

Also, the students and lecturers of the University had the opportunity to talk with guests from France, learn about their volunteer activities and scientific projects, the results of which are used in work with Ukrainian children who are currently in Poland.

Afterwards, the volunteers from France met with Rector Anatolii Tsos. During the meeting, the guests discussed their work in Ukraine and Lutsk in particular with Head of Lesya Ukrainka University and explained the necessity and importance of such work. They noted that the goal of their activity is to help children in a crisis situation and restore childhood through games.

«Thank you very much for taking the time to visit our University and making a presentation of your technology. I hope that our cooperation will not end there,» said Anatolii Vasyliovych.

During the meeting, the results of the training and further plans for cooperation with the University were discussed.
