On January, 28th, 2015 the Lesya Ukrainka Museum hosted a soiree Andronyk Lazarchuk in the Cultural and Artistic Space of Volyn, dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the artist’s birth.
Andronyk Hryhorovych Lazarchuk (1870-1934) was a Ukrainian artist, teacher and cultural figure. Undoubtedly, he is regarded as one of the most famous Volyn artists. Born in the village of Ukhovets (today Kovel district), he preserved landscapes of native village, images of countrymen and their lifestyle, deep in his heart for the rest of his life. Wherever he might be, the artist’s works were breathing folk air of Volhynia.
The event was opened by Larysa Ihnatova, Ph.D. in Art History, Associate Professor of History, Theory of Art and Performance Department of the EENU Institute of Fine Arts, member of National League of Ukrainian Composers.
Various facets of A. Lazarchuk’s talent, as well as fateful days in his life and oeuvre, were explored in the speeches by Hennadii Bondarenko, director of the Volyn Branch of National Society of the Ukrainian Ethnographers, Ph.D. in History, Professor of Archaeology, Ancient and Medieval History of Ukraine Department of our university, Anatoliy Syliuk, director of the Volyn Museum of Regional Ethnography, Honored Cultural Worker (he spoke about the role of the Kosach family in Lazarchuk’s fate). Among other speakers were Lesya Kovalchuk, Honored Teacher of Ukraine, Olena Ohneva, Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor of Documentation and Museum Studies Department, who discussed the artist’s creativity and drew a parallel with the Chinese artist Qi Baishi.
Tamara Levytska, the main scientific expert of the Art Museum in Lutsk, told an original story on the painter’s artistic heritage. She mentioned Ipolyt Lazarchuk, Andronyk’s son and follower, father of Ukrainian animation. Tetiana Danyliuk-Tereshchuk, director of the LesyaUkrainkaMuseum, provided an opportunity for the guests to get a sense of making a tour of the museum. She familiarized them with the breath-taking pages of the Museum’s “Lazarchukiana”. A Ukrainian folk song performed by Tetiana Hrytsak, 5th year student of theInstitute ofFine Arts, was a tender pearl to decorate emotional atmosphere of the party.
At the end of this memorable event, Larysa Ihnatova thanked all the organizers of the gathering. She also expressed special thanks to the Youth Policy and Social Work Department and to its head Volodymyr Zakhozyi, to the History, Theory of Art and Performance Department and its Chair Prof. Vasyl Chepeliuk, People’s Artist of Ukraine, Tetiana Danyliuk-Tereshchuk, Director of the Lesya Ukrainka Museum, Antonina Radko, Head of the Oleksandr Rysak Biobibliographical Department, Orest Prokopovych, 5th -year student of the Institute of Fine Arts (designer of the poster).
