On the occasion of the 152nd Lesya Ukrainka’s birthday anniversary and University Day, a number of thematic events were held. The final chord was the literary and musical composition “Whoever has not lived in the eye of the storm, does not know the price of strength.” The event took place on February 25 in the Palace of Culture of the city of Lutsk.
Lesya’s people were present in the hall including Rector Anatolii Tsos, vice-rectors, representatives of the administrative and teaching staff, employees and students. In addition, the event was attended by honoured guests: People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Member of the Supervisory Board of the University Iryna Konstankevych, First Deputy Chairman of the Volyn Regional Council Yurii Polishchuk, Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Iryna Chebeliuk, Head of the Department of Education and Science of the Volyn Regional State Administration Nataliia Matviiuk.
The event began with a moment of silence in memory of the perished Heroes. Rector Anatolii Tsos was invited to speak first: “You and I had the great honour of working at a university named after Lesya Ukrainka. Meanwhile, professionally and qualitatively in order to bring Victory closer.
After that, the Engraved Diplomas of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University were awarded to:
– Yurii Gromyk, Vice-Rector for Academic Work and Recruitment;
– Yevhenia Sinchenko, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation;
– Nataliya Yatsyshyn, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of Humanitarian Specialties;
– Serhii Knysh, Professor, Head of the Department of Constitutional, Administrative and International Law;
– Vitalii Okhmaniuk, Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Arts.
“We were gathered here by the name of Lesya Ukrainka, her creativity, her genius, her word that mobilises during the war. I want to thank our glorious University for the fact that Lesya Ukrainka, despite her significant anniversary, received a new rethinking, a new impetus to read texts. Ukraine is being opened in a new way, thanks to the word of Lesya Ukrainka,” said Iryna Konstankevych from the stage. She reminded the audience that in the office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi there is a fourteen-volume book of Lesya Ukrainka’s works, which was prepared and organised by Lesya’s scholars of VNU. After that, Iryna Konstankevych handed Rector Anatolii Tsos digitised recordings of all Lesya Ukrainka’s works from “Ukrainian Radio” and the Acknowledgment of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Diploms of Gratitude of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine were also presented to:
– Vice-Rector for Academic Work and Recruitment Yurii Hromyk;
– Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Communication Nataliia Blahovirna;
– to the professor-teaching staff of the Department of Ukrainian Literature and its Head Viktor Yaruchyk;
– Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Literature Victoriia Siruk;
– Tetyana Danyliuk-Tereshchuk, Director of Lesya Ukrainka Museum;
– Head of the Department of Theory of Literature and Foreign Literature Serhii Romanov.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine awarded the Certificate of Honour to:
– Mykola Kravchuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law;
– Natalia Slyvka, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry and Pharmacy.
Diplomas of Gratitude from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine:
– Mykhailo Kots, Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogical and Age Psychology;
– Oleksandr Mezhov, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language;
– Oleksandr Khanin, Associate Professor of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Statistics.
The First Deputy Chairman of Volyn Regional Council, Yurii Polishchuk, welcomed the decision to celebrate University Day at the same time as the birthday anniversary of the institution’s patroness. “Today we celebrate the birthday of a really great person. The work of Lesya Ukrainka is the work of a real warrior. Her life is connected with the struggle both against the disease and against the Russian Empire for a better fate of the Ukrainian people. I am very proud that I grew up in the regions where “Forest Song” was born and studied at Lesya Ukrainka University, where my civic position was born,” he summarised.
Volyn Regional Council awarded a Certificate of Honour to:
– Oksana Fishchuk, Professor of the Department of Botany and Methods of Teaching Natural Sciences;
– Vitalii Bulatetskyi, Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Sciences and Cyber Security;
– Serhii Golotu, Associate Professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry and Pharmacy;
Volyn Regional Council honoured:
– Oksana Novosad, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Economic and Social Geography;
– Inna Kyrychenko, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Musical Art;
– Natalia Mykhalchuk, Engineer of the Educational and Methodical Department of Higher Education Quality Assurance.
“Today, you and I have been brought together by an outstanding compatriot. I am glad that her words are heard from the stage. Each of us owns her creativity and catchphrases. Lesya Ukrainka is the personification of the indomitability of our nation,” summed up Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Iryna Chebelyuk.

Head of the Department of Education and Science of the Volyn Oblast, Nataliia Matviiuk, said that she was proud to be present at such an event. According to her, Lesya Ukrainka taught Ukrainians to unite and focus on Europe.

During the event, a number of thematic art numbers prepared by students and lecturers of the Faculty of Culture and Arts were performed.
