Department Head of applied linguistics, Doctor of Philology, Full Professor
Professor Iryna Biskub was born on June, 22,1974 in Khmelnytskii, Ukraine. In 1996 she graduated from Uzhhorod State University, with a speciality in English Language and Literature. Since 1996 she has been working at the Applied Linguistics Department, Lesya Ukrainka East European National University. The focus of her research was Methods of Computational Encoding of the Aspectual Characteristics of the English Verb.
In 2004 Ms Biskub successfully defended her thesis and obtained a Ph.D. (‘Kandydat Nauk’) at Ivan Franko L’viv National University, in speciality 10.02.04 – Germanic languages. In 2005 she obtained the academic status of Associate Professor. From 2005 to 2010, she worked as an Associate Professor at the Applied Linguistics Department.
In 2011 Professor Biskub defended her doctoral thesis, which dealt with the problems of the modeling of human-computer verbal communication. At the present time, she has the position of Full Professor in the Applied Linguistics Department of Lesya Ukrainka East European National University, and is the head of the Department.
Professor Biskub has published a manual entitled Applied and Computational Linguistics, the scientific monograph ‘The English Software Discourse as a Model of Human-Machine Verbal Communication’, about 70 scientific articles, and guidelines. She originally formulated and currently conducts theoretical and specialized courses such as: ‘Basic Issues of Applied and Computational Linguistics’, ‘Introduction to Linguistic Cybernetics’, ‘Applied and Experimental Linguistics’, ‘Computational Lexicography’, ‘Speech Synthesis and Recognition’, ‘Neurolinguistic Programming’, and ‘Knowledge Modeling and Expert Systems’. She is currently supervising two theses and serving as thesis examiner for PhD (‘Kandydat Nauk’) dissertations.
