General information about the lecturer

A. Shvab was born on October 21, 1967 in the district center of Luhyny, Zhytomyr region, in a family of teachers. He began study at the Faculty of History in Lesya Ukrainka Lutsk State Pedagogical Institute in 1984, which he graduated with honors in 1991. During his studies from 1986 to 1988 he was called up for military service.

Practical activity

A. Shvab worked as an assistant after graduation, in 1996–1997 – as a senior lecturer at the Department of History of Ukraine, from 1997 – associate professor of the same department. From 2000 to 2005 – Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History. In 2005 he was elected dean of the Faculty of History, in 2012 he was re-elected for the second time. In 2015 he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 2016 he was elected Professor of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Ukraine of the Lesya Ukrainka East European National University. Since 2020 – professor at the Department of History of Ukraine and Archeology.

Research interests

Emigration processes; Migration policy; History of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917–1921; Ethno-demographic and socio-economic processes in Western Ukraine.

Scientific school (postgraduate students)

Awards

He was awarded diplomas and awards from the Lutsk City Council, Volyn Regional Council and Volyn Regional State Administration, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He has the title of «Honorary Local Historian of Ukraine». In 2017 he was awarded the Petro Tronko Prize of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine.
