The institute was established in 2020 as a result of the reorganization of the Faculty of Information Systems of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics. The newly formed educational and scientific institute included the following departments: experimental physics, information and educational technologies, theoretical and computer physics named after A. V. Svidzinsky.
