Books for Migrants: Bookcrossing Launched by the Language Club

Ukrainian Language Conversation Club functions at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University for internally displaced persons from regions hit by active hostilities and also for all interested.

The language club is open every Tuesday and Thursday at 16:00 in Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University’s main building. According to the project manager, Associate Professor of History and Culture of the Ukrainian Language at the Faculty of Philology and Journalism Oksana Pryimachok, during the operating month, the club has become popular among migrants. This was evidenced by a permanently full classroom.

During the class, the club members talked to Oksana Ivanivna about traditional greetings of Ukrainians, using specific examples, analysed the differences between the russian and Ukrainian languages, read colloquialisms and started exchanging books from private libraries brought by teachers, students and other university staff.

Oksana Pryimachok shared some tips for all wanting to learn the Ukrainian language. First of all, you need to read Ukrainian books, news in Ukrainian and watch Ukrainian television. Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Anatolii Tsios, paid a visit to the club. The university governor had a conversation with the students about the books they need.

At the request of the settlers, Rector also joined the bookcrossing fund and shared books from his library. “Books on historical and cultural topics will be best for russian-speaking Ukrainians wanting to learn the Ukrainian language. Therefore, let's read, learn the language and respect our culture”, – Anatolii Vasyliovych.
