A presentation of the “Snowball” dessert took place in the “Stare Misto” coffee shop. On February 23, the representatives of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, parents and children from the NGO “Parents of Children with Down Syndrome and Other Developmental Disabilities”, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk Slawomir Misiak, military, active city communities.
The recipe for the dessert that Lesya Ukrainka prepared for her younger sister Izidora in Kolodyazhne in the fall of 1895 was found by Director of the Museum of Lesya Ukrainka Tetyana Danyliuk-Tereshchuk. In the end, Lesya’s people, with their partners, will present authentic delicacies to the visitors of the “Stare Misto” coffee shop.
“As Lesya Ukrainka was preparing this dessert for her younger sister in Kolodiazhne in September 1895, she took responsibility for the little girl who was difficult to feed. Lesya Ukrainka prepared “snowballs” for Izidora with the desire to surprise and intrigue. This recipe is also registered in Lesya Ukrainka’s letters,” remarked Tetyana Danyliuk-Tereshchuk. In her opinion, tasting Lesya Ukrainka’s dessert can complement the tourist route starting from the monument to our outstanding compatriot, passing through the street named in her honour, and ending in a cafe to taste the delicacy. It should be noted that the participants of the event were treated to one more dessert, baked apples by Petro Antonovych Kosach.
“We are convinced that the place for Lesya Ukrainka’s dessert should be right here. We are very grateful for the support of our coffee shop and this historical direction. We hope that a peaceful time will come soon and tourists will start to be interested in the life of the Old City again because their routes always pass through our coffee shop,” said Olena Melnyk, Head of the NGO “Parents of Children with Down Syndrome and Other Developmental Disorders”.
Nataliia Blahovirna emphasized the important social and volunteer mission of the “Stare Misto” coffee shop. “When the idea of presenting this dessert appeared, it became obvious that such a meeting could only be held in such a coffee shop, because it is a location to which we always return,” she noted.
“A very unusual taste. Hardly comparable with anything. This is a light memory of childhood, homemade milk, cheese, what the associations are. We are grateful to Lesya Ukrainka, for such a recipe”, – Rector of the University, Anatolii Tsos, shared his impressions.
